Keeping a Win List

“You're never as good as everyone tells you when you win, and you're never as bad as they say when you lose."

Every so often, people are kind enough to say nice things about me or my work. Like a lot of people, I struggled with imposter syndrome early in my career, and this validation did help assuage those doubts.

Starting in 2014, I’ve forwarded emails with nice things people say about me to my email inbox and added a “Win List” label.

I do the same thing for emails with feedback and I’ve been lucky enough to work with thoughtful people who put effort into their responses when I ask for it.

I’ve found this to be a helpful habit. With almost 8 years worth of emails built up, it’s immensely useful to have a repository of milestones throughout my career that I can review and reflect on.
